Threadscapes is a digital map that traces the textures and traditions of African fabrics. Part archive, part storytelling, it brings together narratives, historical insight, and visual design to honor the ways cloth carries culture across time and space. This project complements the culturally situated design tool CompuTiles and its use in K-12 computer science classrooms.
Both projects reflect the need for digital projects to support culturally responsive and sustaining computer science education and can be used to create curricular materials to support these endeavors. You can use the links below to learn more about Threadscapes, visit CompuTiles, or view the fabric map.
This map is interactive. It begins centered on the continent of Africa. You can explore each textile by region. Click on each country to visit a regional page with information about the country and the fabric represented on the map.
